This 42-year-old single mother of two grown children was accepted into the Family Supportive Services program (HOPE Advocacy), when she found herself struggling mentally and financially through years of stress. She had multiple fines from a couple DUI’s, was trying to stabilize her mental health, and was failing. She also wanted to achieve her G.E.D. but found it difficult to impossible to work toward on her own. Her FSS case manager encouraged her to follow through with her treatment for mental health and drug and alcohol services. Because of this support along the way, Tracy was able to take a step forward, and then another step. She then focused on other goals as she began to feel a little better, lessening her depression. She obtained her credit report and was setting a monthly budget and working on clearing up past debts.
Today Tracy is managing her mental and physical health, following up with doctor appointments and her counseling. Now that she has made more progress than she felt she ever would, she has confidence in working on her GED and has been very dedicated to the program even with a learning disability.

Sherry a mother of two young children. She is married. She came in for assistance from our Emergency Services department. Her husband was working and became ill, and needed several surgeries. He was then unable to work for quite a while; they fell behind on their rent payments. They owed $925.00. Several agencies collaborated to be able to prevent this family’s eviction. Between Community Action, a local church, Salvation Army and POPC the family avoided becoming homeless and the eviction process was stopped. They are currently living in their home.

“Prince of Peace Center has become a family to me. They have watched me learn and grow as an individual and bestowed upon me what it really means to help. They have forever shaped the way that I think of a helping agency. They truly believe in what they do and the people that they support. Never have I met a group of individuals so dedicated to a cause.”

“By interning at the Prince of Peace I am now confident going out into the social work field because of what I learned. They were willing to answer any questions that I had and made every effort possible to teach me the skills I would need to know when starting my new job.”
